Before blazing new trails as a Career Ownership Coach®, I was a program manager leading Cybersecurity and technology initiatives. With my technology experience and passion for others, my role evolved into a business transformation leader; helping executives and teams successfully transition to agility. I embraced “Agile” for improving performance and delivery to realize corporate strategic goals as well as an employee’s personal goals. I practiced and taught tools, frameworks and methodologies that encouraged agility. The teams performed well, the projects were successful, and I genuinely enjoyed my role. You see, it has always been my dream to help others meet their goals, needs, and expectations at work so they can enjoy their absolute best life at home.
For the past three years my passion, graduate degree, extensive credentials, and valuable experience was not enough to stay employed as I fell victim to corporate layoffs. Corporations appreciated my contributions, valued my ability to produce quickly, save revenue and satisfy stakeholders but it did not matter. And as I began searching for new employment, it was clear to me that being qualified with excellent references did not matter. Answering calls from recruiters and headhunters every day for months and months did not matter. Submitting 20 to 30 job applications a day and subscribing to dozens of job boards just did not matter. Even having an extensive network of associates still did not matter. And after months of applying, I finally received an interview invite. On the day of that interview, the recruiter emailed me saying “we have decided to go in another direction and therefore the interview is canceled.” Would you believe that has happened to me twice (within one week!) I know, you are probably thinking it is unbelievable! It was at that moment when it became clear, believable that I must make a change and take “ownership” of my career. Thus, I am now an enthusiastic Career Ownership Coach® living my dream to assist others in distress.
